Are you experiencing some difficulty decorating your apartment? As I’m sure you already know, decorating a small space so that it looks good and works well can be a challenge. There are several factors to take into consideration when you’re trying to figure out the style, space limitations, paint restrictions, budget, etc. So I’ve compiled some quick apartment decorating tips that should help get your creative juices flowing.
While you’re focusing on the aesthetics of your room make sure you remember it needs to be functional as well. You’ll need places to store your mail, groceries and paperwork. Whatever requires your daily attention must be readily available! You can have organization without sacrificing your style just by having colorful/patterned/textured containers to store those items in. Various shelving units also help with organization. Multi-functional pieces, such as storage ottomans which provide seating and storage, are a bonus as they make your smaller space work better for you.
If you’re in an apartment like mine, you aren’t allowed to paint the walls. This makes it tough to express your true design. However, there are plenty of alternatives to paint for putting color on your walls. For example, you can do a temporary mural, a large framed poster/artwork, fabric, etc. One thing I’ve tried at my apartment is cling stickers. I found them at the Dollar Store! In my guest bathroom there are little shells and fishes swimming on my walls! It’s completely different than any other decorative element I’ve tried, but it works and best of all: they don’t hurt the walls! So don’t be afraid to think outside the box when you are decorating your space.
Given that you may or may not be able to paint, accent pieces play an important role in getting the maximum impact. In any room you’ll notice the items that carry the most weight, meaning the items that have more vibrancy or add an interesting element to the space. They can include lamps, vases, curtains, pillows, etc. Whatever your motif, add an accent color, shape or pattern with these items; it’ll provide the extra glam that you’re looking for. For example, a paper lantern floor lamp or a unique arch lamp will create visual interest while being functional and cohesive to your design.
I hope these tips help you on your way to creating your stylish apartment. Do you have any more useful ideas to share? I know we’re all in the same boat trying to find unusual decorating ideas with our restrictions, so let your ideas flow!

In one of the forums I participate in, I came across a question regarding renters insurance and whether it’s worth the extra cost. There were many answers supporting each side of the question. Some commented that it wasn’t worth the extra expense because, really, how often do you get burglarized, flooded or have your apartment catch on fire. Others noted that the benefits of having it outweighed the expense-even if you don’t ever have to use it. So let me interject some of my opinions….
I personally feel safer having renters insurance. The peace of mind alone is worth the annual cost of $140. With that being said, I’m about 80% sure I’m never going to need it. However, hearing the stories on the news about fires that have engulfed an entire apartment building reassures me that I made the right choice. Whether I actually use it or not, I know that I am covered and that gives me peace of mind. Also, as one forum participant commented “it’s not just the insurance on your stuff, but also covering you for liability”. This is important! If someone gets injured in your home, having renters insurance will protect you!
So what is your opinion? I’ve stated mine and clearly I am advocating that everyone should have renters insurance. So if you happen to be in the market for renters insurance, check out our website!

As everyone knows the favorite tradition of Easter is receiving Easter baskets filled with candy. You’d wake up in the morning to discover that the Easter bunny had come and dropped off the basket full of goodies for you! Before or after breakfast you started diving into the yummy treats, right? What we at For Rent want to know is what your favorite Easter treat is??
I took a quick poll at our office and found out the number 1 favorite Easter candy is Reese’s Eggs!! These yummy treats combine all the goodness of traditional peanut butter cups in an Easter egg shape! I love them! They are my weakness for sure! The candies that followed, in order, were: Cadbury eggs, Whopper eggs, jelly beans and sweet tarts! Surprisingly no mention of peeps! :-) I know a good friend of mine loves Peeps, so I need to include those in this list as I’m sure many of our readers enjoy them as well!
So let us know….what’s your favorite Easter treat? The one you remember waking up to wanting to eat first? Or the one you see in the stores and can’t help but grab a bag of? We want to know!!

Most adults and older teens think that participating in an Easter egg hunt may be a little too childish. Well, we’ve come up with an Easter egg hunt for kids and adults alike to enjoy this Easter!
Hide eggs around your apartment community for kids to find. Place them in fairly obvious spots so the children can easily locate them. So what makes this hunt any different from any other? Well, here is where adults and older teens can participate. Have everyone split into teams; one adult/older teen per child. Everyone starts in one place, like the apartment community center, and the adults/older teens get a list of clues. Each clue lets the team know where to find an egg. Clues like ‘You’ll really break a sweat in here…’ (Answer: sauna/fitness center) or ‘You won’t be at FAULT if you hit it in the NET here…’ (Answer: tennis courts). Creating a thinking game for the older ones will make it fun while also allowing the children to collect the prize and candy!
Another idea I saw that I liked was having a checklist egg hunt. Have eggs that are different colors and give the adults/older teens a checklist of how many their teams need to accumulate to win. For example, 2 blue eggs, 1 orange egg, 4 yellow eggs, etc. For the younger children, they are able to collect eggs as they learn math and colors.
These are just a few ideas to help you come up with some creative Easter egg hunts in your apartment community. Do you have any you’ve done that you suggest for others? Let us know. I’m sure all our friends would like to hear!

If you feel like having a traditional Irish meal this St. Patrick’s day, what better way than having Steak & Guinness Pie? Exported from MasterCook, check out the below recipe to make your own…
Steak & Guinness Pie
Ingredients:
2 1/4 pounds of Round Steak
1 tablespoon of Flour
1 teaspoon of Brown Sugar
1 tablespoon of Raisins (optional)
5 Onions
10 fluid ounces of Guinness
8 slices of Bacon
Parsley Chopped
1 Recipe of short Pastry*
*For double-crust pie in deep pie dish, Cut the steak into bite sized cubes, roll in seasoned flour and brown in the lard with the bacon-chopped small.
Directions:
Place the meat in a casserole dish. Peel and chop the onions and fry until golden before adding them to the meat. Add the raisins (if wanted) and brown sugar. Pour in the Guinness. Cover tightly and simmer over a low heat or in a very moderate oven (325-350F) for 2½ hours.
Stir occasionally and add a little more Guinness or water if the rich brown gravy get too thick. Meanwhile, line a deep pie dish with half the pie crust and bake it blind. Then add the Guinness/beef mixture from the casserole dish, cover with the top layer of pie crust and bake until finished. Probably about 10 more minutes. Serves 4
