Comfort Food for Your Holiday Party
According to an article published this week in the Miami Herald, “Caviar is out, and comfort food is in.” With that being said, and holiday parties fast approaching, I thought it would be nice to compile a list of some holiday worthy comfort food.
Sliders: You cannot go wrong with mini burgers. Period. Not into beef? Sliders can consist of almost anything; from chicken, to pork, to crab cakes. If you would like to get fancy and add cheese, fried onions, and other delicious toppers, feel free… the sky’s the limit.
Mash potato bar: These are popping up at more and more events, and people are loving them! Be sure to find cute mini dishes to use at your mashed potato bar; many people opt for martini glasses. You can customize your own mashed potatoes, and the topping choices are endless. Offer an assortment of specialty cheeses, bacon or prosciutto bits, and various steamed veggies. And let’s not forget the sour cream, demi glace, and specialty gravies that are out there.
Mac and cheese: Another starchy favorite on the list of comfort foods, mac and cheese appeals to the masses. As with our other selections, you can dress this dish up if you wish, or not if you don’t. Opt for smaller portions, and perhaps individual containers, to give it that extra something. Experiment with adding cheeses that you wouldn’t normally put in mac and cheese, like gouda or goat cheese, and perhaps throw some bacon in the mix as well, and top it off with bread crumbs.
These are just a few ideas of comfort food that would serve up well at a holiday party. Try thinking outside the box when it comes to ingredients and remember, smaller individual portions make people feel that extra attention and thought have been put into their attendance at your event.

Here at World Spinner we are debating the same thing……
I’m not sure what we are having for our holiday party, but I did just get back from my family Christmas up north and it was nothing but comfort food. Lots of mashed potatoes, chicken fried steak, beef stew and BBQ. I’m still fasting!
Cheers!
