Witness History in Washington, DC

History is made every day in Washington, DC. The capital of the United States portrays significance & power with its 19th century structures and frequent motorcades sightings. The city of politicians, and their constant influx of interns, is always full of action and activities.

Enjoy being a tourist first before sinking your teeth into full fledged DC life.  Taking tours of all the monuments, museums and memorials will surely give you a greater appreciation for your new surroundings. Relatives will be anxious to visit after you have settled into the city, and knowing your way around the city will make the visit smooth and enjoyable. DC’s Metro system is very efficient and can get you around to all of the necessary sites.

Don’t forget your camera.  Although you now live in DC, there are sights and sounds that you may only be able to see and hear once in your life time.  You never know who you will run into.  You could meet the President at a local burger joint or a professional athlete in the mall.

Apartments in Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia also give you easy access to DC and great views of the city without actually living in DC.  In Maryland, Oxon Hill and Silver Spring, also have great communities in the “DC Metro” area.  So, enjoy witnessing history, and if you are savvy enough, you may get a chance to make history as well!

Does Your City have Low Rent? List of 10 Top Metro Areas with Low Rent…

Americans are finding that renting an apartment is an increasingly attractive option especially considering its affordability when compared to the housing market.  But it really depends on where you live. Business Week worked with the research firm Reis and came up with a list of large metropolitan areas with the most affordable rents. You’ll be amazed at some of the average rents these large metros have!

  1. Oklahoma City, OK. Average rent: $543
  2. Columbus, OH. Average rent: $677
  3. Indianapolis, IN. Average rent: $675
  4. Kansas City, MO. Average rent: $701
  5. Fort Worth/Arlington, TX. Average rent: $718
  6. Cincinnati, OH. Average rent: $710
  7. Denver/Aurora, CO. Average rent: $887
  8. Greenville, SC. Average rent: $887
  9. Houston area, TX. Average rent: $769
  10. Dallas/Irving, TX. Average rent: $814

Being from Hampton Roads, VA, I am amazed that some of these larger city areas have the same, if not lower, average rents as where I live! How about you, do you find this shocking at all?

“These results are based on  metro areas with populations of at least 1 million are ranked based on average asking rent as a share of income. The highest-ranked metros have the lowest share of income used for rent. Fourth-quarter 2008 average asking rent is a blended average for all sizes of apartments and does not include landlord discounts or other incentives. The populations, incomes and rents are for the metropolitan statistical areas as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. Click here for full descriptions of the individual metro areas.”
