Tucson, Arizona The Greenest of Deserts

Do you know why Tucson is dubbed “The Greenest of Deserts?” Well, that would be because of its eco-friendly stage. There are a variety of farmer’s markets, hundreds of miles of bike paths and smart water usage like xeriscaping. Did you know that in 2007, Tucson was named one of 13 “Solar Cities” in the United States, and awarded a half-million-dollar grant to better implement solar energy? Yup! It was also ranked the 17th lowest carbon emitter in a list of 100 largest metro cities in the country, according to the Washington DC thinktank The Brookings Institution!

And that’s not all! They also host many ‘green’ events throughout the year to help reinforce the green living lifestyle.  And how could we forget the numerous ‘green’ parks that fight to conserve and protect Southern Arizona’s resources.  They really are a community taking it to next level in protecting our environment.

If this “green” place seems like the location for you, we’d recommend you taking a look at these apartment communities on ForRent.com:

Throw a Rockin’ Housewarming Party

There are several people I know that have recently moved into a new apartment. Just about every day they are asked, ‘How are you enjoying your new place?’ as well as other types of questions like ‘what’s the floor plan?’ or ‘how do you have it decorated?’, etc.  Most of the initial questions you get asked when you’ve recently moved can be answered by a simple event, a housewarming party!

Inviting your friends, family and co-workers to a housewarming party where they can see your lovely abode will ensure you the opportunity to show off your style.  And what better way to gloat about your new space with all the cool swag on display?!

We’ve taken the liberty of highlighting a few basics to guarantee you a rockin’ housewarming party!

  • Invites are a must. I would really recommend using websites such as Evite.com to send out virtual invitations. Saves on cost and they’re eco-friendly! If there are people who you do not know their email address (i.e. your new neighbors), small notes are totally acceptable.
  • What should you serve? That’s easy…whatever you want! Most housewarming parties are basic drinks and hors d’oeuvres, but there’s nothing saying you can’t stray. If your apartment has a great deck or patio, a barbeque might be nice (provided that it’s okay with your apartment association first)! Housewarming Cup CakesHousewarming Cupcakes by slushpup
  • Do I need to provide entertainment? Absolutely! The point of your housewarming party is to show off your new home, so be sure to include tours of your new apartment for all those coming. That will answer all those pesky questions they ask. But in addition to the tours, you should provide music and other entertainment. At a housewarming party I attended, they had group video games for everyone to interact and meet one another. Music is also a popular form of entertainment.
  • And finally, always show your appreciation. All of your guests have taken time out of their schedule to spend a few hours with you and share the joy of your new apartment. Thank them for stopping by and especially thank them should they have brought a gift; especially, since housewarming gifts are optional!

To everyone who has just recently moved into their new, or first, apartment-CONGRATS! Here’s hoping you have a terrific housewarming party!

5 Unique Reasons to Go Green

If you’re like me you know the benefits of going green. We preach it all the time in our Apartments Going Green For Rent Media Solutions Going Greenarticles; it helps save the earth’s resources and the green in your wallet (money). But what are some unique reasons, perhaps some you didn’t think of before, for going green? Well, I turned to my favorite place for answers, Yahoo Answers and Google, to find some. They require some creative thinking, but I think you’ll like the reasons we’ve come up with…

  1. It’s fun! You can totally make a game of recycling with a group of your friends or even a competition to see who the best is.
  2. It’s empowering. Can you imagine the kind of high you’ll feel from helping the environment? You will have a since of pride that you are helping change the world for the better!
  3. You’ll resemble your favorite celebrity! Many celebrities are taking the world by storm to try and get people more involved in environmentally friendly ways.
  4. You’ll be viewed as stylish and trendy. The ‘hot’ thing right now is to ‘go green’. Many stores are printing t-shirts with phrases about going green, making recyclable bags with fun slogans, etc. You’ll be ‘in’ to your friends & family.
  5. Green is a cool color that looks good on you! Many going green items are in fact green in color. When you think of going green, you think of Mother Nature, which is green. And, as we mentioned earlier, it helps save you some green in your wallet. This fabulous color will be all around you, and why not? You look good in green!!
